Alcohol by Volume from Density Calculator

What this calculator does

The Alcohol by Volume from Density calculator determines ABV from the density of a spirit measured at 20°C. It uses the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) laboratory table to look up the alcohol content corresponding to the measured density. This method is used in international and metric distillery operations where density-based ABV determination is preferred over proof-based methods.

How to use it

Enter the density of the spirit measured at 20°C in kg/m³ or g/cm³. The calculator looks up the corresponding ABV and alcohol by mass from the CRA laboratory table. Ensure the sample is at exactly 20°C and use a calibrated density meter or pycnometer for accurate results.

Calculation notes

The CRA laboratory table provides the relationship between density at 20°C and alcohol by volume for ethanol-water mixtures. For fractional density values, interpolation is used between table entries. The table is valid for ethanol-water mixtures; spirits containing significant dissolved solids or non-ethanol components may require additional analysis. Always verify results using approved laboratory methods for regulatory purposes.
