Proof Gallons by Weight Calculator
What this calculator does
The Proof Gallons by Weight calculator determines the number of proof gallons in a quantity of spirits when you know the net weight and true proof. It uses TTB Table 4 to convert the weight of spirits to wine gallons (volume at 60°F) based on the true proof, then multiplies by the proof to arrive at proof gallons. This is the standard method used when spirits are weighed rather than measured by volume.
How to use it
Enter the net weight of the spirits and the true proof. The calculator uses TTB Table 4 to look up the weight-to-volume conversion factor for the given proof, then calculates wine gallons and proof gallons. For accurate results, use a calibrated scale and ensure the true proof has been determined using approved methods.
Calculation notes
TTB Table 4 provides the weight of one wine gallon of spirits at each proof level. The table is used to convert between weight and volume when spirits are gauged by weight. For fractional proofs, linear interpolation is applied between table entries. The net weight should be the weight of the spirits only, excluding the container. Always verify results against approved gauging procedures and maintain required records.
